First Graduate- Exploring the Possibilities 2015 Event
Tonight I had the pleasure of volunteering for the First Graduate– Exploring the Possiblities 2015 Career Night Event. First Graduate is a Non-Profit organization that helps students finish high school and become the first in their families to graduate from college ready to pursue meaningful careers.
The goal of this event was to expose the program’s high school students to a variety of career fields that may or may not have been on their radar. Many first-generation college-bound students have limited exposure to the breadth of professional opportunities available or the awareness of the educational background & experience necessary for them. They may also not have a network to easily discover that information on their own. Events like this one play an important role in adding tools to their toolkits, reminding them of the power of a college degree, and helping them stay motivated on the road to achieving their goals.
I was honored to be a part of the Careers in Medicine group (one of 6 groups), where I participated in a networking activity with 3 other professionals and 20 high school students each session . An amazing experience and such bright minds!
