Azurdee Miller
Administrative Coordinator/Lead Client Service Representative

Azurdee worked at and helped shape Blue Sparrow for over 7 years, as well as in the veterinary field for over fifteen years. She began her career as a client service representative in general practice at Arguello Pet Hospital in 2006. Since then she has worked at All Pets Hospital, Nor Cal Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital, and has been relief staff for other veterinary hospitals in San Francisco.Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Azurdee grew up working with pets in her family’s pet grooming business that her grandmother began in the 1970’s. As a family owned and operated business, Azurdee was always surrounded by lots of animals at a very young age. Her mother would often joke that she learned how to bark before she learned how to talk. Azurdee began her career in the veterinary field to expand her knowledge about animals, as well as emphasize the importance of the human-animal bond.

In 2004, Azurdee moved from Knoxville to San Francisco to pursue a Master’s degree in Fine Art, which she obtained in 2006 from the San Francisco Art Institute. She still continues to create art as a passion rather than a career.

Azurdee currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, Japhy, and their cats, Toki and Gadget. In her free time, Azurdee enjoys movies, makeup, dining, karaoke, playing games of all types, her passions of painting and drawing, as well as exploring the outdoors of the Bay Area with her husband.

Caroline Johnson
Administrative Assistant/Technical Services Supervisor

Caroline is one of our newest Client Service Representatives and has been working in the veterinary field since 2019. When deciding to join the world of veterinary medicine after having her son, Logan, it seemed like a natural choice given her love of animals, skills in communication, ability to multitask and desire to promote well being. Caroline has loved animals all of her life and currently also a loving mom to her 9 year old Rottie, Ivy.

Originally from Virginia, Caroline and her family have relocated to Southern California in support of her husband who is in the military. In her free time she enjoys exploring all that Southern California has to offer with her family,  listening to audiobooks, and playing video games with her son.

Technicians/Veterinary Assistants

Tammy Young, RVT
Integrative Care and Pain Management

Tammy has been working in veterinary medicine for almost 20 years. After completing her degree from Western Career College (now Carrington College) and obtaining her RVT license, she worked in emergency & critical care, surgery, ophthalmology, and general practice where she particularly enjoyed dentistry. In 2009 she obtained her certification as a Canine Body Worker from Caninology and owns Tranquil Tails Canine Massage, a mobile therapeutic canine massage service. She also recently obtained her credentials as a Certified Animal Cold Laser Practitioner through Angel’s Animals with their Animal Bodywork Courses.

Joining the staff of Blue Sparrow Holistic has given Tammy the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of integrative medicine. She loves seeing how it can naturally bring comfort and a better quality of life to the pets seen.

Tammy lives in Oakland with her husband and two crazy Weimaraners.  She enjoys traveling, baking, and watching Disney movies.

Relief Technicians

Erin Meyer, RVT
Integrative Care, Home Medical Management and Hospice Care

Erin Meyer has been working in veterinary medicine for more than 25 years.
Originally from Michigan, Erin moved to San Francisco in 1993 and immediately began working at the SF SPCA Animal Hospital.

She has a BS in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University and an AS in Veterinary Technology from Foothill College. For the last two decades, Erin has gained extensive experience in veterinary nursing while working at Veterinary Vision as a surgical nurse, as well as San Francisco Veterinary Specialists (SFVS) as an internal medicine, ophthalmology and emergency nurse. She has also worked in general practice with Avenues Pet Hospital and Presidio Way Veterinary Hospital as their overnight ICU nurse.

Erin has owned her own cat sitting and technician assistance business for 15 years, with a special interest in feline medicine and hospice care. She loves playing a crucial role in the health and well being of so many wonderful animals. She realizes the importance of animals being able to stay home for calm and quick health care procedures that would normally cause unnecessary stress for both owners and their pets in the hospital environment.

Erin lives in San Francisco with her husband and two cats, Lefty and Otter. In her downtime, she enjoys hiking Bay Area trails, reading and wine tasting.

Jackie West, RVT
Holistic Supportive Care and Client Education

Jackie started working with animals at age 5 when she went to the San Francisco Zoo as a volunteer with her mother. From there she continued to volunteer at the Zoo from the age of 12 to 19 years old. Looking back, one of her favorite animals to work with was the bald eagle.

Jackie graduated from Foothill College Veterinary Technology Program in 2008 and promptly obtained her RVT license. She worked in veterinary general practice for 11 years (where she met Dr. Araba years ago), but has now transitioned to being a technician for overnight emergency and specialty veterinary care.

She also returned to the Foothill College Veterinary Technology Program in 2013 as an instructor and continues there to help educate and shape new veterinary technicians.

Jackie comes to Blue Sparrow as a relief technician for a change of pace and to have more client based interaction with education and care for our patients.

Outside of work, she has two cats-11 year old siblings Nyland and Panda Rue (nod to the Golden Girls), and two miniature Australian Shepherd siblings puppies Lincoln and Pixel.  Jackie enjoys hiking and walking around her native Half Moon Bay with her pups in her free time.
